FIRE-RESISTANT SEALING OF UTILITIES

Parts of buildings, structures and fire compartments, as well as premises of various functional fire-hazard classes, must be separated from one another by enclosing structures with rated fire-resistance limits and constructive fire-hazard classes or by fire barriers.

The requirements for such enclosing structures and types of fire barriers are established taking into account the functional fire-hazard classes of the premises, the fire-load value, the degree of fire resistance and the constructive fire-hazard class of the building, structure or fire compartment. Since building utilities — ventilation pipes, cable tunnels, plumbing pipes — pass through these barriers, the integrity of the barriers is compromised. Transit utilities require fire sealing.

Curing fire-protective mortars, intumescent seals, foams, cuffs, gaskets, non-flammable cords and fire sealants are used for sealing.

The materials provide fire-resistance limits of EI 30 – EI 240.
